"Dr. Marks, how should I care for bleeding after oral surgery?"

Following oral surgery, it is normal for patients' mouths to bleed.  Dr. Marks will place a clean gauze pad on the area to soak in the blood.  This bleeding generally lasts 30-45 minutes and the pad can then be removed.  Some dental patients may experience prolonged bleeding.  In this case, a new gauze pad should replace the soiled one and pressure should be applied to the bleeding area.
