Cheekbone And Chin Implants

Cheekbone (also call called "malar") augmentation can be used to better
define a midface which is flat and lacking in contour. This surgery
creates higher, more prominent cheekbones by placing an implant on the
cheekbone.
During the surgery, incisions are made in the mouth and the soft
tissue is elevated from the cheekbone. Next, an implant is inserted and
secured to the bone and the incision is closed.
A similar procedure may be used to augment a small chin or the sides
(angles) of the lower jaw. Depending on the individual, it may be
determined that a patient would be better served by having orthognathic
surgery (see the link on jaw reconstruction) to bring the entire jaw
forward.
These procedures are normally performed as an outpatient in the
office under sedation.
